Nigeria's telecom operators have temporarily suspended SIM -related services due to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) migration to a new identity verification platform. The affected services include:
- New SIM registration
- SIM swaps
- NIN registration
- Mobile number portability
The NIMC upgrading it's identity management infrastructure to enhance data security, improve system performance, and ensure better integration across government agencies and private sector stakeholders. The new platform, developed with the help of BlieSalt Financial Services.
There's no official date yet, but insiders expect the system migration to be completed by mid or late July 2025. The Association of Licenced Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has advised subscribers to postpone SIM-related transactions until further notice.
