DStv decoder price slashed by 50%: MultiChoice's strategic move to win back subscribers

MultiChoice Nigeria has reduced the price of it's DStv decoder by 50%, from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000, to attract new customers and reverse declining subscriptions. This move is part of the company's "We Got You" campaign, aimed at making premium content more accessible and showcasing DStv's diverse offerings beyond sports.

Subscribers who pay for current package in full between June 15 and July 31,2021, will receive a free upgrade to the next package tier.

MultiChoice lost 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025 due to economic downturn and price hikes. The company aims to showcase DStv as a source of daily value across diverse genres, including drama, movies, kids' programming, and news. The pricing adjustment and bonus upgrade are efforts to respond to Nigeria's economic realities and ease pressure on households.

By slashing the decoder price and offering a free upgrade, MultiChoice hopes to win back sub rivers and increase its market share in the face of rising competition from streaming platforms.
